User Interfaces | Sorting & Filtering
CONCEPTUAL WORK
Goal
Implement sorting and filtering capabilities on a content-rich screen to enhance usability and facilitate efficient navigation.
Thinking
In the mobile versions, I aimed to maintain a user-friendly experience by ensuring that filter buttons blended seamlessly with the background, avoiding overwhelming visual distractions. After experimenting with both inline filtering and icon/button-triggered filter views, I found that the inline filtering system provided the most intuitive user experience, allowing ample space for the sort button to remain visible. To reassure users that their progress would be saved if they decided to leave the screen, I implemented an alert modal. This notification ensures users understand they can easily return to where they left off in the process.
In the desktop view, I prioritized accessibility by prominently displaying all three filters in the left column, rather than hiding them behind a single button. This approach ensures users can easily locate and utilize the filters without unnecessary clicks or navigation.
Well-crafted filter and sorting interfaces are like helpful guides in navigating content smoothly. They empower users to refine their searches and organize results according to their preferences, making the experience more enjoyable and efficient.
On both mobile and desktop platforms, I’ve guided users through the onboarding process with clear indications of their current step. Each screen explicitly outlines the necessary actions to move forward, ensuring clarity and simplicity for all users. As this is part of the onboarding process I wanted to craft it to be a smooth journey while guiding users through a series of steps towards completion with ease and clarity. Additionally, I wanted users to have convenient access to filter options, which allows them to effortlessly customize their viewing experience with a few simple clicks.
